Your bell tent is equipped with many of the comforts of home, from cozy bedding and linens, to a coffee cart with campstove, kettle, and pour-over for that morning pick me up.
Our tents have power so you can run the air conditioner, use the mini-fridge, and charge your devices as needed. In your personal outdoor space you’ll enjoy a private deck with a smokeless Solo firepit and Adirondack chairs as well as a hammock for ultimate relaxation.

Our story
Hello! We’re Amanda and Alex Rutledge, owners and operators of The Hill, New River Gorge. As lifelong adventurers, travelers, and campers ourselves, we’d like to welcome you to our little slice of almost heaven in the heart of southern West Virginia. Our story is a homecoming, a decision to slow down, be present and really revel in the opportunity to share this beloved space with folks like you.
Alex and I were both born and raised here in Fayette County. We were high school sweethearts, who became young parents, and are now empty nesters. Our careers led us to live many years in North Carolina, regularly making trips home to WV to visit family and stay connected to our roots. After our daughter Alexis, our pride and joy, graduated high school, we ventured to live in Seattle, WA. We then realized that although our lives were happy and careers were successful, we were yearning for something new, so we decided to make a change. We sold our home and most of our belongings, bought a class C RV, and hit the road full time! We traveled the US and Mexico exploring national parks, hidden beaches, and distant mountain trails. Eventually the road led us back home to West Virginia where we decided to turn our dream of owning The Hill, NRG into a reality. We purchased 16 acres of Alex’s family property and got to work. We’ve spent the last two years revitalizing the property and turning it into a unique glamping experience as well as our home. We hope that you’ll enjoy all that our hills have to offer, and that the sweet mountain air fills you with a sense of wonder and an adventurous spirit that brings you back time and time again.
